Youth Sub-Committee

Mission
To address the needs of Marin Children and Teens with ASD and their families by inspiring and fostering awareness, change, and development in the systems that serve them.

This year, following the lead of the MAC Steering Committee, the Youth Sub-Committee is focusing on resources and support for families affected by Asperger’s Syndrome and similar profiles.

Youth Sub-Committee Goals
1) Identify what resources currently exist in our county for youth with Asperger’s Syndrome and similar profiles.
2) Identify the current gaps in services that are needed to support youth with Asperger’s Syndrome and similar profiles in our county.
3) Prioritize these needs and work together to develop solutions.
4) Put together a directory of supports and services for youth with Asperger’s Syndrome and similar profiles.

Youth Sub-Committee Achievements
1) The Youth Sub-committee has developed a Resource Guide of Professional Training Opportunities in ASD for use by educators and professionals to support the education system with a focus on recruiting personnel with ASD expertise.
2) The Sub-Committee annually develops a list of area summer camps that are serve children with ASD.
3) POST recently released a training video for law enforcement officers on autism. Karen Kaplan, MAC Youth Sub-Committee Chair, was on the advisory committee. You can view the video here.

Meetings
Join us for the next sub-committee meeting and help us make a difference in the lives of children with ASD. 

The Youth Sub-Committee meets monthly during the academic year at the Connection Center in San Rafael. Please check the MAC calendar for upcoming meeting times.
